Kitchen Hands (full time / part time)
There's a saying about too many chefs in the kitchen! Our kitchen team is critical to the running of the hotel, serving fabulous food from breakfast through to dinner, with weddings, events and banquets as well to cater for. But it's not all about the cooking! Kitchen surfaces don't clean themselves, fridges don't stock themselves and the washing-up isn't done by magic.
Kitchen Hands are essential for the smooth running of a kitchen and are a critical part of the team at the heart of the hotel. We are looking for reliable team players, who are happy to get stuck in and support our chefs to produce the fabulous food for which we are renowned. Kitchen Hands can be a full-time or part-time role.
Recently completely refurbished, our main kitchen is huge, with several different work stations. We have a second kitchen on the upper ground floor. You will join a friendly team working various shifts throughout the week, including weekends to cover breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea & dinner services, plus events such as weddings and banquets.
Full-time Kitchen Hands are all-year-round positions, working 5 days per week including weekends with a mixture of split and straight shift work. Part-time Kitchen Hand hours will be agreed. No qualifications or experience in hospitality necessary, but a can-do attitiude and a willingness to get stuck in with a smile is advantageous. There's no sitting down on this job - if you are an active person, who likes to make sure things are kept in order and your environment is spick and span, this could be the job for you.
Please apply in writing via letter or email to Hotel Director Grant Smith or telephone us on 01493 842000 to arrange an informal chat.
(For the avoidance of doubt, our Kitchen Hands were feeling shy the day our staff pics were taken, these are some of our chefs larking about with the baguettes).
Apprenticeships
We firmly believe in the importance of apprenticeships, learning your trade and working your way up. Hotel Director, Grant Smith, started out as an apprentice at Imperial Hotel many years ago now, and has worked his way through almost every single department, learning the tricks of the trade from housekeeping to accounts, reception to front of house. He's not that bad in the kitchen either! You can read his story on our blog.
Apprenticeships are a great way to learn everything you need to know about a sector, especially the hospitality industry. You achieve an industry-wide recognised qualification at the end of your apprenticeship which will stand you in good stead whatever you decide to do in the future. Apprenticeships at Imperial Hotel are always advertised via the offical government apprenticeship website, and also often on the East Coast College website. Feel free to telephone us to see if there are any apprenticeship vacancies planned. The majority of our apprentices go on to achive a full-time position at the hotel and work with us for many years.
This pic is of one of our fabulous chefs who is working her way up the Chef ladder, one apprenticeship at a time. We also have an apprentice accountant, apprentice receptionists and apprentices working front of house. The world can be your oyster with a good apprenticeship.
