We were absolutely delighted that Café Cru has retained 2 AA rosettes for culinary excellence further to our recent 4 star AA inspection this week. Pictured here looking really rather chirpy about the news is Executive Chef Daniel Lawrence and Head Chef Peter Clarke, who don't usually venture out beyond the kitchen door into the restaurant.
In these still somewhat strange and ever-changing times, we've had to make a number of changes in our kitchen to ensure our fabulous team can work in a Covid-secure environment, at the same time as cooking and presenting delicious, high quality food worthy of 2 AA Rosettes in Café Cru Restaurant. Daniel and Peter have risen to the challenge, with a beautiful menu using plenty of local food and seasonal produce, so that guests to Imperial Hotel can enjoy fine dining.
The inspector enjoyed a sumptious 3 course meal in Café Cru and reported as follows:
STARTER
Grilled Local Asparagus; Cured ham crisp, pork crumb, poached egg, truffle foam, herb oil.
Lovely vibrant fresh local asparagus served with a runny poached egg and complemented by the cured ham and herb oil.
MAIN COURSE
Breaded Chicken Kiev; Garlic butter filled chicken, Jersey royal, tenderstem broccoli.
Succulent chicken breast which was moist and tender with a garlic butter and herb filling; served with Jersey royals and tenderstem broccoli.
DESSERT
Warm Treacle Tart; Vanilla soured cream.
Deep, moist treacle tart with a citrus flavoured filling and crumbly short pastry; complemented by the soured cream.

We've removed a number of covers from Café Cru restaurant so that guests can dine in a socially distant manner, and our popular booths with glass screens are firm favourites with those in the know.
